Chinese Beef Stew With Potato Recipe (Asian, Chinese Cooking)

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei, ever since my Mother taught me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for Cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and pick-up new Asian/Chinese recipes.

500g beef
2 potatoes
1cm ginger
5 cloves of garlic
1 onion
1 cinnamon stick
2 orange peels
5 Tbsp soy sauce
1 whole star anise
1 Tsp red peppercorn
1 spring onion
1 Tbsp sesame oil


1. Slice ginger, garlic, onion and spring onion.
2. Cut potatoes into bite-sized chunks.
3. Cut beef into bite-sized chunks.
4. Place beef in a pan and add cinnamon stick, star anise and red peppercorn.
5. Pour 2 litres of water into the pan and then add garlic, ginger, soy sauce, onion and orange peel.
6. Place a lid and boil on medium heat for1.5 to 2 hours until beef is tender.
7. Add potato to the pan and continue to boil for 20 minutes until softened.
8. Add sesame oil and salt to your taste.
9.Transfer into a dish and sprinkle the spring onion.
10. And Serve.
